The story behind Sangwa is a tale of love, resilience, and a deep connection to two different worlds.
It all began in 1990 when Christophe and Kaatje first crossed paths. At that time, Kaatje was diligently working as a nurse at a health center in the village where Christophe grew up. Little did they know, their meeting would mark the beginning of a lifelong journey together.
However, their lives took an unexpected turn after the tragic genocide, prompting them to make Belgium their new home. They went on together and raised three beautiful children. Despite the physical distance from their Rwandan roots, the emotional connection to their homeland grew stronger with each passing year.
A remarkable endeavor in 2021
To build their dream home on the serene shores of Lake Muhazi. It was a vision they had nurtured over time, and they were determined to see it come to fruition. In a stunning testament to their perseverance and dedication, their dream was realized in less than three years.
They chose the name “Sangwa” for their haven
A name that perfectly encapsulates their philosophy of hospitality. “Sangwa” means to welcome someone in such a way that they feel completely at home. And that’s precisely what they aimed to create: a place of warmth and belonging.
